Career choices are always big decisions. How will you know that you made the right choice? What happens if you start a new career and it just isn’t for you? These are all questions we have to answer when thinking about what is best for our interests and lifestyle.
One of the new terms that you may hear while out looking for a job is that we have a growing “gig economy”. There are many jobs that are considered gig jobs. According to Investopedia, “in a gig economy, temporary, flexible jobs are commonplace and companies tend to hire independent contractors and freelancers instead of full-time employees.” This creates a workforce where people are no longer focusing on career development and are instead focusing more on the flexibility of this lifestyle.
Determining if a gig is what is best for you requires considering the benefits and limitations of this type of work. Maybe you are unsure of what you want to focus on. Maybe you’re just looking for some extra money on the side. Because most gig jobs are temporary, it may help you find the career or profession that brings you the most joy. It is always important to do your research and make sure it is what will work best for your lifestyle.
If you are looking for a more stable job with traditional hours and benefits, then a gig job may not be what is best for you.
